Mission & Past Projects

Designing the ideal space doesn't need to be a crisis...
This statement has rung true for me since designing my first project over twenty-five years ago. Everyone has a sense of style and an idea of how they would like to use and feel in a certain room. As a designer, I want to help you remove the stress of design projects by walking with you through the process of creating the space you envision. Midlife Century was born out of my love for the simple and functional design elements found in the Mid-Century Modern era. We've all hit a "mid-life crisis" of sorts with our own spaces and want to make a change. Whether that change is as small as rearranging your furniture and adding some new color or as big as a major remodel, Midlife Century Interiors is here to help.

Mid-Century Modern (Post-War Territorial)  Home, Tucson, AZ

These photos show how to integrate new pieces of furniture with existing pieces. The client had great armchairs and a signature lamp, but needed a sofa and coffee table to finish the room. In the dining room, a new and functional table was paired with existing chairs and a second hand rug. A mix of different colors, textures and art pieces create unique, relaxing and budget-friendly spaces.

Kitchen remodel, Tucson, AZ

This project was the result of an unfortunate water line leak in the concrete slab floor. The original cabinets from the late 1940s and built on site were still in place. The lower cabinets had to be removed. The upper cabinets were still in great shape and very solidly built. By using a skilled, professional painter and a paint made for cabinets, we were able to combine old and new. Four-inch backsplash tiles were used to keep the Mid-Century look of the kitchen. LVT flooring, a custom Formica countertop, new door pulls and re-using the enameled steel sink helped keep this project more affordable. Mexican pasta-style tiles over the range create a distinctive look. This shows how a homeowner can retain the original feel of their vintage kitchen by honoring some of the original finishes and adding modern functionality.

Major Historic Remodel, Decorah, IA

An original 1890s downtown brick building was completely remodeled for business and residential use. These before and after photos of the upper residential space show the attention to detail to preserving some of the original features like the high ceiling, tall windows and baseboard millwork. This 2-bedroom, 2-bath loft combines the historic charm of the 1890s and a more modern, urban loft.
